Vanessa Jeanne Blue

Vanessa Jeanne Blue (Nana) passed peacefully in her sleep at dawn on Sunday, 24 January, 2021 in the care of Evergreen Hospice (Kirkland, Washington).  The second of three children, Jeanne was born on 25 April, 1938 to Archie Wilmot Blue and Mary Viva Knowlton in Plaster Rock, New Brunswick.

After retiring from public service for the province of British Columbia, Jeanne moved to Washington State and assumed the endearing role of Nana to grandsons Sam and James, a role she heartily embraced with all of her grandchildren until her passing.

Jeanne will be remembered as our avid gardener, a  lover of peonies and all things green.  She shared the beauty and bounty of her gardens with cuttings and tubers from plants that now burst into bloom annually in the gardens of friends and family.  Even now, we await the Spring.   Meanwhile, her shortbread warms our winters.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her loving daughter, fellow gardener and constant companion Cindy Lea (William Smith) and her brother-in-law Lloyd McNeill.  She is survived by her brother Ben (Diane) Blue, sister Betty McNeill, adoring son Brad (Julie) Blue, grandchildren James Benjamin (Heather) Blue, Zachary Aaron (Sarah) Blue, Rachel Elizabeth (Randi) Blue, Samuel Wakefield Smith, James Knowlton Smith, and great grandchildren Harper Grace Blue and Oliver James Blue.

We are grateful for the loving and tender care that Nana received at Evergreen Hospital and Hospice Care.  Memorial gifts can be made to the EvergreenHealth Foundation/Hospice Care, 12040 NE 128th Street, MS 5, Kirkland, WA, 98034-3013.

Due to the pandemic, a celebration of Jeanne’s life will be announced at a later date.
